Buying a Salt and Pepper Human Hair Wig in the US: Shipping, Returns and What Things Actually Cost
Most guides to buying a gray wig stop at colour and style. The things that actually decide whether the purchase goes well are duller than that: how long it takes to arrive, where it goes back to if it does not suit you, and what the price on the listing does not include. Here are our answers, in plain numbers.
How long shipping takes
Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days. Standard shipping within the United States is free to most addresses and arrives 3 to 7 business days after dispatch.
If you need it sooner and the item is held in our US warehouse, two expedited options are available at checkout: UPS 3 Day Select at $18, and UPS 2nd Day Air at $25.
We are a US-focused brand. We can ship to many other countries, but shipping is charged rather than free, transit times are longer, and US warehouse stock and expedited options do not apply.
Where returns actually go
This is worth being blunt about, because it is the single most common worry with gray wigs bought online. Returns come back to our US warehouse. You are not shipping a wig to China.
The window is 15 days from delivery. What happens next depends on why it is coming back.
If the fault is ours - wrong item sent, not as described, a defect, or an unreasonable delay in dispatch - you get a full refund within 1 to 2 business days of the return passing inspection, and we reimburse your return postage against the courier receipt. You are not out of pocket.
If you simply changed your mind - you do not like it, it is not what you pictured, you ordered the wrong one - a $20 handling fee is deducted and you cover return postage. We think that is fairer than pretending returns are free and pricing it into every wig instead.
One thing no wig seller will accept back: a unit that has been worn, washed, styled or had its lace cut. Try it on over a wig cap with clean hands before you alter anything.
What things cost, including the parts people get wrong
Cap size is not an upcharge
Our standard cap measures 22.5 inches around. Adjustable straps, an elastic band and removable combs take it from roughly 21.5 to 24 inches. On a standard in-stock wig there is no size to choose and no extra charge for fit. If you measure 22.5, you are not at the edge of the range - you are the middle of it.
There is a persistent idea that a custom cap means a four-figure medical-grade build. That is true of vacuum-seal prosthetic caps. It is not what we make. Our custom service starts at $99, adding a custom cap circumference is $25 on top, and a thoroughly customised wig - your texture, density, colour and cap - typically lands around $300. Production takes 7 to 15 days.
Toppers cost far less than wigs, and often suit thinning better
If your hair is thinning at the part and crown but the sides and back still have density, a topper is usually the better first purchase. It covers exactly where diffuse thinning shows, it is lighter and cooler than a full wig, and it clips into hair you still have.
Our human hair toppers run from about $69 to $179. Elsewhere in the market, human hair toppers in gray blends commonly sit in the $400 to $900 range, so it is worth checking the price of the thing you actually need before defaulting to a full wig.
Colour is not a surcharge either
Our salt and pepper is white hair blended with naturally dark hair. It is not bleached and then toned to gray, which is how most gray wigs on the market are made and why they can look flat and turn brassy. Brown with gray blends are different: the brown base there is dyed, and the silver strands run throughout the hair rather than sitting as streaks at the front.
Two things that surprise people after it arrives
It hangs shorter than the number on the label. Length is measured with the hair pulled straight, which is the industry standard, so a 14 inch wig contains a full 14 inches of hair. Once wave or curl is in it, it sits higher. Wavy textures hang about 2 to 2.5 inches higher than the label, curly about 4 inches or more, straight at full length. We measured four 14 inch wigs side by side if you want to see it rather than take our word for it.
It needs washing far less often than your own hair. About every 7 to 10 wears, or roughly every two weeks with daily use. Cool water, sulfate-free shampoo, never wring it. With regular wear and proper care a human hair wig lasts 8 to 12 months.
