Making the join invisible

  • Height matters more than anything. A ponytail at the crown or mid-back is easiest to disguise. Very low nape ponytails show the join most.
  • Smooth your own hair first. Any bumps or flyaways at the base draw the eye straight to the attachment point.
  • Match the texture, not just the shade. If your own hair is wavy, a sleek straight ponytail will read as separate no matter how well the colour matches.
  • Curly textures shrink. A curly ponytail hangs about 4 inches shorter than its stated length, water wave about 2 inches shorter, straight hangs true.

Choosing your shade

Match to your mid-lengths, which is where the ponytail sits against your own hair, rather than to your part line. If you are between two blends, choose the lighter one - a ponytail slightly lighter than your own hair reads as sun-lifted ends, while a darker one reads as attached hair.

The four blends are explained on our Salt & Pepper Wigs page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear this if my own hair is short?
You need enough length to gather into a small ponytail, roughly 4 inches or more. Below that, a half wig or a glueless wig is the better route.

Will it pull on my hair?
The weight sits on the ponytail rather than on individual roots, so it is gentler than clip-ins for most people. If your hair is fragile, choose a shorter length - less hair means less weight - and avoid wearing it in the same tight position daily.

How long does it last?
Typically a year or more with occasional wear. Wash only when product builds up, roughly every 15 to 20 wears, and store it hanging or flat rather than folded.
