What people use bulk hair for
- Crochet braids - pre-looped or hand-looped into cornrows. Human hair crochet looks and moves far more naturally than synthetic and can be restyled with heat.
- Box braids and knotless braids - human hair braids are lighter on the scalp than synthetic and do not carry the coating that causes itching.
- Locs and loc repair - for starter locs, extending existing locs, or filling in thinning spots.
- Twists and cornrow extensions - anywhere you would normally use kanekalon but want a natural look.

How much do you need?
It depends on your own hair density and the style, but as a rough guide:
- Crochet braids, full head: 4 to 6 packs
- Box braids, medium size, full head: 5 to 8 packs
- Starter locs or filling in: 2 to 3 packs
- Adding length to existing locs: 1 to 2 packs depending on how many

Frequently asked questions
Can I get bulk hair in gray or salt and pepper?
Yes, and it is one of the harder things to find elsewhere. Most bulk hair is sold in solid dark shades only. Our gray blends let you braid or crochet without going back to a colour you no longer have.
Is bulk hair the same as a weave bundle?
No. Weave bundles are sewn onto a weft, a strip you sew or glue in. Bulk hair has no weft at all, which is what makes it usable for braiding, crochet and locs. If you want sew-in bundles, see Bundles & Closures.
How long does an install last?
That depends on the style and your own regrowth rather than on the hair, typically 4 to 8 weeks for braids and crochet. The hair itself can be washed and reused for several installs.
Can I dye it?
Natural black bulk hair takes colour. We do not recommend re-dyeing our salt and pepper blends, because a second dye process flattens the blend that makes them look natural.
